چکیده
-Extract ion of the stems and leaves of Piper ridleyi with ether afforded N-isobutyl-15-(3',4'-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2E,4E,12E-pentadecatrienamide (ridleyamide), as well as the known amide, retrofractamide, and sterols. I N T R O D U C T I O N A variety of unsaturated isobutylamides have been isolated from plant sources, in particular from members of the genus Piper [1]. These compounds are of interest because of their physiological activity and insecticidal properties [2]. Presently, we are investigating the constituents of Malaysian Piper species as part of a research programme seeking potent insecticides. We report herein the isolation and structure elucidation of a new isobutylamide, named ridleyamide 1. 276 2 0 ' 15 ~ ' ~ 1 3 5 3 I-I 1"

Molluscicidal Activity of Affinin and Other Isobutylamides from the Asteraceae
Unsaturated aliphatic isobutylamides from Asteraceae, Rutaceae and Piperaceae are potential agents to control schistosomiasis. Affinin (N-isobutyl-2,6,8_decatrienamide) from Heliopsis longipes has strong molluscicidal activity against Physa occidentalis (LD5e ca 100 PM) and the cercariae of the fluke. The amide has also been shown to be present in Wedelia parviceps flowers.
متن کاملDiacetylenic isobutylamides of Echinacea: synthesis and natural distribution.
The syntheses of three diacetylenic isobutylamides of Echinacea angustifolia have been achieved by direct synthetic routes by way of a common intermediate. The key step is the alkylation of the anion of the silylated diacetylene. We report the presence of all three diacetylenic isobutylamides in six of the nine Echinacea species: E. angustifolia, E. sanguinea, E. simulata, E. tennesseensis, E. ...
متن کاملCichoric Acid and Isobutylamide Content in Echinacea purpurea as Influenced by Flower Developmental Stages
Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench, Asteraceae, a native of North America is among the most frequently utilized Echinacea spp. for medicinal, cosmetic, and beverage preparations. Most of the echinacea preparations in the industry originate from wild harvesting and few from non-standardized (unregulated) cultivation and harvesting. According to the recent reports (Brevoort 1996), echinacea preparati...
متن کاملAbsolute and relative bioavailabilities of dodeca-2E, 4E, 8E, 10E/Z-tetraenoic acid isobutylamides after intravenous and oral single doses in rats
Background Dodeca-2E,4E,8E,10E/Z-tetraenoic acid isobutylamides are the main alkamides in Echinacea preparations, which have been demonstrated to possess biological activities in various bio-assays, such as immune-modulating activities and effects on cannabinoid receptors [1]. Therefore, the evaluation of systemic availability of these active plant constituents is a major prerequisite for the i...
متن کاملBioavailability of dodeca-2E, 4E, 8E, 10E/Z-tetraenoic acid isobutylamides after oral administration in rats and distribution in various tissues
Background Preparations from Echinacea are among the best-selling phytopharmaceuticals worldwide and have been widely used for the treatment of common cold and various upper respiratory infections. The most relevant active principles of Echinacea extracts are alkamides, caffeic acid derivatives (CADs) and glycoproteins/polysaccharides [1]. The main alkamides in Echinacea preparations are the is...
